A supportive primary school in Doncaster is looking for SEMH Support Staff to help pupils feel settled, engaged and ready to learn.
About the Role
In this role, you will provide classroom-based support to primary-aged pupils who may need additional help with their social, emotional and mental health needs.
Working alongside the class teacher and wider school team, you will help pupils manage emotions, develop positive behaviours and engage with learning across EYFS, KS1 or KS2.

Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small-group classroom support to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Help children manage emotions and develop positive coping strategies.
- Encourage engagement with lessons and classroom activities.
- Support positive behaviour through clear, consistent boundaries.
- Build trusting and professional relationships with pupils.
- Work closely with teachers and other staff to support individual needs.
- Monitor pupil behaviour and engagement and share relevant observations with staff.
Requirements
- Previous experience supporting children or young people is desirable.
- Experience working with SEMH, behavioural or additional needs is advantageous.
- A calm, patient and consistent approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain positive and professional when supporting challenging behaviour.
- A genuine commitment to helping children succeed.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
- To work with GSL Education as SEMH Support Staff (Primary), you should:
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.
- Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
- Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
