Job Title: Part-Time Maths and English Functional Skills Teacher
Location: Epsom
Salary: £25 – £40 per hour (depending on experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM (flexible) | Monday to Friday
Contract Type: Ongoing, Long-Term

GSL are working closely with an Alternative Education Provision based in Surrey, which is dedicated to supporting young, vulnerable people through sports and creative engagement to improve their life skills. The post is to start as soon as possible, and you will be required to work during term time until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of becoming a permanent member of staff.

We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Functional Skills Intervention Teacher to support pupils aged 11–16 with SEMH, ADHD, and ASC in a nurturing and structured setting in Surrey. This is a key leadership role, ideal for someone with strong subject knowledge and the ability to deliver Maths and English at Functional Skills level to small groups of pupils (8–10 per class), with the support of Teaching Assistants in every session.

This great opportunity would suit an educator with previous experience in SEN settings, especially working with pupils who are unable to access mainstream education due to SEMH, SEND, or exclusions.

Functional Skills Intervention Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver Functional Skills Maths and English lessons to small groups of students aged 11–16.
  • Provide personalised learning experiences that promote student engagement, confidence, and academic progress.
  • Work closely with Teaching Assistants to create a safe and structured environment.
  • Monitor pupil progress and adjust teaching strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, helping them to re-engage with education.
  • Collaborate with other staff to develop individual learning plans and interventions.

Requirements for Maths and English Functional Skills Teacher:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Previous experience delivering Functional Skills English and Maths.
  • Experience working in SEN, SEMH, or Alternative Provision settings is highly desirable.
  • Ability to lead small group interventions with a focus on pupil wellbeing and academic progress
  • Strong classroom management and behaviour support skills.
  • A nurturing, adaptable, and resilient teaching style.
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one through GSL Education.
