GSL Education is currently recruiting a dedicated, resilient and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school supporting children and young people with severe and complex Special Educational Needs (SEN). This is a rewarding full-time opportunity for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or Support Worker who is confident supporting students with complex needs, including students who are non-verbal, require personal care, and may display challenging behaviours.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who require a high level of individualised support. You may be supporting students on a 1:1 basis or within small groups, helping them to access learning, develop communication skills and participate in daily activities. Your responsibilities may include:
- Supporting students with severe and complex SEN
- Working with non-verbal students and supporting different methods of communication
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support
- Supporting students with challenging behaviours
- Assisting with personal care, including toileting and other daily care needs
- Supporting students with sensory, physical and communication needs
- Assisting with manual handling and physical support, where required
- Building positive, trusting relationships with students
- Working closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals
The Ideal Candidate
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN
- Experience supporting students with severe and complex needs
- Experience working with non-verbal students
- Confidence supporting students who may display challenging behaviours
- A willingness to provide personal care
- A calm, patient, caring and resilient approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Availability to work full-time
Manual handling experience or training would be highly desirable, although relevant experience and a willingness to support students with physical needs are also valued.
