Job Title: ELSA Teaching Assistant
Location: Market Weighton, East Riding of Yorkshire
Contract Type: Full-Time
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently seeking an ELSA Teaching Assistant to work in a supportive school environment in Market Weighton. This is an excellent opportunity for an empathetic and dedicated individual who can provide targeted emotional support while helping pupils feel safe, valued and ready to engage with their learning.

ELSA Teaching Assistant Role:

The successful ELSA Teaching Assistant will provide structured emotional literacy support to pupils who may experience social, emotional or behavioural difficulties. Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff, you will help children develop emotional awareness, self-regulation, resilience and positive relationships, while contributing to a calm and inclusive school environment.

ELSA Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individual and small-group emotional literacy activities tailored to pupils’ needs.
  • Build trusting relationships with pupils and provide a safe space for them to express their feelings.
  • Support children to develop emotional awareness, self-regulation and coping strategies.
  • Encourage positive social interaction, confidence and resilience.
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to maintain consistent support approaches.
  • Monitor pupils’ engagement and progress and provide appropriate feedback to relevant staff.

ELSA Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Must have previous experience supporting children with social, emotional or behavioural needs.
  • An ELSA qualification or relevant training/experience in emotional literacy support is highly desirable
  • A calm, compassionate and patient approach when working with children.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to establish positive, trusting relationships.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and commitment to promoting children’s wellbeing.
  • An up‑to‑date CV covering the last 10 years, with any employment gaps explained

  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
