A welcoming secondary school in Barnsley is looking for a Classroom Supervisor to support students and maintain a positive learning environment.

About the Role

As a Classroom Supervisor, you will oversee classes when the usual teacher is unavailable, ensuring students understand and complete their assigned work.

You will supervise pupils across different subjects, manage classroom behaviour and provide encouragement where needed.

You will work with students across Key Stages 3 and 4, giving you the opportunity to develop your classroom management skills while making a valuable contribution to their school experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise classes in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Follow and deliver lesson plans and activities provided by teaching staff.
  • Maintain effective classroom routines and appropriate behaviour.
  • Encourage students to remain focused and complete their work.
  • Support pupils across different subjects and year groups.
  • Respond appropriately to classroom issues and follow school procedures.
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff on student engagement and behaviour where appropriate.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable.
  • Confident communication and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to lead a class and maintain clear boundaries.
  • A calm, organised and reliable approach.
  • Confidence working with secondary-age students.
  • Ability to work independently while following provided instructions.
  • A genuine interest in supporting students' education and development.
  • Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
  • To work with GSL Education as a Classroom Supervisor, you should
  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.
  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.

We also offer, via our partner, access to accredited Education-relevant CPD courses.

In addition to that, GSL Education are currently offering £100 for the successful referral of either Teachers or Teaching Assistants (Ts &Cs apply).
