GSL Education are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join schools in Peacehaven. As a 1:1 Teaching SEN Assistant, you will give individual support to a student with Special Educational Needs (SEN). You will help the student with their learning, social skills, communication, and behaviour. This includes helping them with classwork, explaining tasks in an easier way, and giving encouragement throughout the day. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to follow plans like Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and use strategies that suit the student’s specific needs. Your support will help the student take part in lessons and feel included in the classroom.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist a student with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in the classroom with individualised one-on-one help.
  • Help the student understand class instructions and encourage their active participation in learning.
  • Monitor the student’s progress and share feedback with teachers and SEN support staff.
  • Promote the student’s independence while offering support when needed.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help with emotional regulation.
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship with the student and the wider school team, including the SENCO.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in one-to-one SEN support, such as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant role or a similar setting is desirable.
  • A degree in Education, Psychology, or a related subject is an advantage.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Good understanding of how to support children and young people with different SEN needs.

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from the last two years.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS certificate registered with the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
