We’re now looking for a Subeditor to join Guardian Opinion.
You'll be working on articles by some of the world's best writers, which attract a huge global audience on a wide range of subjects – from UK politics to Donald Trump, to the climate crisis, to social justice, to pop culture and powerful human stories of overcoming the odds. And you'll be presenting them in a way to give maximum appeal to our readership.
This is a permanent position, 9 day fortnight work pattern with weekend working as required.
About the role
- Subedit a range of copy across Opinion output
- Write online page furniture in collaboration with editors and senior production staff
- Select pictures and multimedia elements to create the best visual presentation for content
- Assign keywords and metadata
- Optimise content for digital reach in consultation with audience team
- Proofread print output
About you
- Subbing and production experience – particularly online
- Confidence in using web tools
- Experience in creative visual presentation of content across platforms
- Demonstrable interest in Guardian Opinion content
- Appreciation of Guardian history and values
- Knowledge of media law
- Journalism qualification, media law knowledge and familiarity with the PCC code of conduct desirable, but not an essential requirement
- Ideally you will have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to the role.

You’ll have 27 days of annual leave per year (plus bank holidays) with the option to purchase an additional 5 days.
