About the role
- Create, articulate and constantly develop an impactful product strategy for newsletters to deliver quality user experiences and generate value for the Guardian.
- Collaborate closely and proactively with editorial, commercial and product and engineering stakeholders to ensure the product strategy and delivery reflect organisational priorities and meet the needs of internal users.
- Make effective decisions based on product strategy and insights.
- Interrogate and deploy actionable insights from both qualitative and quantitative data, telling meaningful stories using data.
- Work with UX, research and data analysts to decide the best method to evidence assumptions and develop effective product discovery and optimisation methods.
- Employ each appropriately to generate maximum value for users and business impact for the Guardian.
- Work with an Engineering Manager to lead a cross‑disciplinary team.
- Create and maintain an environment of high performance and pace with a clear focus on measurable outcomes.
- Motivate the team, generate great ideas and drive consensus where needed.
- Create and maintain partnerships across a wide range of stakeholders both across the organisation and with key platform partners and providers.
- Engage with the wider product function to foster a culture of effective, innovative and collaborative product management – including experimenting with how AI can benefit our ways of working and our products.
About you
- Demonstrated experience as a product manager with prior experience working directly with software engineers to deliver outcomes at pace.
- Ideally with experience in an editorial or journalistic organisation and/or experience in newsletters and CRM.
- A problem solver, empathetic and deeply interested in users' needs, with a passion for understanding the craft of journalism and the medium of the newsletter.
- Highly collaborative decision maker, successful in building partnerships across the business and uncovering the needs and priorities of internal users.
- Able to communicate clearly at an operational level with delivery teams as well as at a strategic level with senior leaders.
- Highly data literate, analytical and logical.
- Well versed in optimisation of products via testing and in interpreting analysis to ensure a constant high quality experience for all users.
Additional information

The role is based in a hybrid environment – three days a week from our offices in Kings Cross and two days a week remotely.
