Assistant Print Editor

We’re looking for an assistant print editor to play a significant role in the team producing a vibrant, high quality engaging print version of the Guardian’s daily news coverage. This is a 6-month fixed-term contract or staff secondment. The working pattern will include regular Sunday shifts.

• Plan and produce a compelling, well‑judged and dramatically presented Guardian newspaper each day
• Work closely with and support the editor of the daily print edition to produce the best possible newspaper
• Ensure that news stories already published on the website are well edited and repurposed for the paper
• Work closely with pictures and graphics teams to ensure strong visual presentation across the print edition
• Work with, and have strong relations with, the national, financial, international, features and sports desks
• Collaborate with the news designers and production staff to ensure timely production of the paper

• Excellent knowledge of, and interest in, current affairs
• Established track record as a journalist in a busy newsroom
• Strong editing experience in a fast‑moving environment
• Understanding of Guardian values
• Thorough knowledge of demands of print
• Good knowledge of media law
• Ideally, you’ll have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role
