Server Side Developer – Developer Experience Stream (12‑month Fixed Term Contract)
You’ll mostly be programming in Scala and Type Script, running in AWS, using the tool that best fits each problem.
You will work in a cross‑functional team empowered to rapidly iterate and release new features.
Collaboration is essential – pair programming within your team or working with developers across other product teams.
As a server‑side engineer you will be involved in product and technical decision making, mentor peers, and continually grow your own skills.
You will dive into functional, composable Scala back‑end work or engage with database and streaming technologies as needed.
Responsibilities
- Program in Scala and Type Script on AWS, selecting the most suitable tool for each task.
- Collaborate in a cross‑functional team to design, build, and release features quickly.
- Participate in product and technical decisions that shape the platform.
- Mentor and share expertise with other developers while expanding your own knowledge.
- Build a new Developer Experience platform to improve the Guardian’s engineering team efficiency, strengthening observability and deployment capabilities.
