An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Engineering Supervisor responsible for leading a craft team. The successful candidate will support the engineering and operations functions to improve the site's reliability and equipment availability performance. Reporting to the Engineering and Maintenance Manager, you will ensure people, processes, and technologies are working at optimal performance to meet business objectives.
In the UK, Guardian is continually looking for talented individuals to help it continue their growth and presence in the regional market. All UK manufacturing is based at the plant in Goole, East Yorkshire, which has recently made a significant investment in a new furnace that uses advanced technology and will secure glass manufacture at the site for the next 20 years. The plant can produce some of the most advanced and innovative energy-saving architectural glass on the market today. The plant is a lower-tier COMAH site which operates a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
What You Will Do
- The Engineering Supervisor – Mechanical focus – is responsible for leading and managing the mechanical maintenance team to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective upkeep of all mechanical plant equipment and facilities.
- This role involves coordinating mechanical maintenance activities, providing technical guidance specific to mechanical systems, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
- You will play a critical role in minimising downtime and maximising mechanical equipment reliability.
- Embrace influential leadership to build a motivated, high-performing mechanical team aligned with our Principle-Based Management (PBM) culture.
- Promote a culture of safety with a specific emphasis on mechanical maintenance best practices, ensuring all activities comply with safety regulations and company policies.
- Drive performance management through setting clear objectives, monitoring progress, providing coaching and development opportunities, and conducting regular performance reviews for the mechanical maintenance team.
- Ensure mechanical maintenance practices comply with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in mechanical maintenance processes.
- Foster strong team collaboration and communication within the mechanical maintenance group and across departments, including operations, engineering, and procurement, to support overall plant performance and achieve operational goals.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- NVQ L3 Engineering Modern Apprenticeship with a mechanical bias.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, equipment maintenance, reliability principles, and standard mechanical maintenance work processes.
- Proven supervisory experience managing mechanical teams in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- A proactive approach to understanding the root causes of mechanical failures and contributing to the risk reduction of equipment downtime.
- Experience using CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) to schedule and track mechanical maintenance activities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with team members and stakeholders at all levels.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Preferred: L4 HNC or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Demonstrated success in team building, performance management, and developing a high-functioning mechanical maintenance team.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment with a strong mechanical maintenance focus.
