Our client is a leading engineering consultancy operating within the rail and rolling stock sector. Due to continued project growth, they are looking to appoint either two Services Engineers, two Senior Services Engineers, or a combination of both to support the delivery of vehicle modification, installation, and turnkey engineering projects across the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity for practical, hands‑on engineers who enjoy working both in the workshop and on customer sites, taking ownership of technical activities from planning through to delivery.
The Role
Working as part of a specialist projects team, you will support the delivery of rail vehicle modification, installation, testing, and commissioning activities. The role combines practical engineering with technical documentation and customer‑facing responsibilities.
Typical duties will include:
- Supporting and delivering rail vehicle modification programmes
- Mechanical and electrical installation activities
- Fault finding, testing, and commissioning of equipment
- Manufacture and assembly of test equipment, harnesses, and electro‑mechanical assemblies
- Production of technical documentation, including Method Statements and Risk Assessments
- Supporting site mobilisation, tooling, materials, and project planning activities
- Liaising directly with customers and project stakeholders
- Supporting onsite installation teams and subcontractors
- Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and to the highest quality standards
For Senior Services Engineers, additional responsibilities will include:
- Leading onsite modification and installation activities
- Producing installation procedures, testing documentation, and technical work instructions
- Estimating labour requirements, installation durations, and project costs
- Coordinating subcontract labour and supplier activitiesSupporting bid and proposal activities
- Acting as the technical lead during project delivery
About You
We are keen to speak with candidates who have experience in one or more of the following:
- Rail vehicle modification programmes
- Mechanical and electrical installation activities
- Fleet maintenance and overhaul
- Vehicle integration and testing
- Commissioning and fault‑finding
- Manufacturing, assembly, or workshop engineering environments
You will ideally possess:
- A recognised engineering qualification (Mechanical, Electrical or Electro‑Mechanical)
- Strong practical engineering skills
- Experience working within safety‑critical environments
- Excellent problem‑solving and fault‑finding abilities
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- A flexible approach to travel and working away when required
- Full UK Driving Licence
