Senior Project Manager | Defence & Security Technology |
A growing defence technology business, developing advanced systems used by government and security organisations worldwide, is hiring a Senior Project Manager to lead its most complex, highest-value programmes.
This isn't a coordination role. You'll own delivery end to end, from contract award through to acceptance, sitting across multidisciplinary teams and acting as the main point of contact for customers and executive stakeholders alike. Governance, risk, P&L, resourcing, coaching the PMs underneath you, escalation when things get hard. All of it sits with you.
The business is small enough that your decisions carry real weight, and established enough that you'll be working on genuinely high-stakes, strategically significant programmes rather than incremental improvements. Its technology supports customers operating in some of the most demanding environments in the world.
What you'll be doing:
- Directing a portfolio of complex, high-risk projects and setting the delivery strategy behind them
- Building trust with executive stakeholders and customers, and translating that into clear governance reporting and decisions
- Owning budgets, forecasting and financial performance across your programmes
- Leading multidisciplinary teams and third-party partners toward one integrated delivery plan
- Coaching and developing project managers to raise the bar across the wider team
- Supporting bids and business development where your delivery experience adds weight to the pitch
What you'll need:
- A PRINCE2 Practitioner, APM PMQ, MSP Practitioner qualification (or equivalent)
- Real experience leading multidisciplinary delivery teams on complex programmes
- Comfort operating at executive level, and the judgement to make calls under pressure
- Eligibility for UK Security Clearance (SC) is essential
Defence, security or technology programme experience is a strong plus, as is a working understanding of systems engineering or software development lifecycles. A second language for international stakeholder work would help too, though it's not a dealbreaker.
Some UK travel expected, with occasional international trips. This is a permanent role for someone who wants ownership of programmes that actually matter, not just a bigger job title.
