We’re supporting a well-established rail engineering consultancy to appoint an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to work across a diverse portfolio of passenger, freight, metro, and light rail rolling stock projects. This is a technically senior role offering real ownership across the full project lifecycle — from feasibility and design through to integration, assurance, testing, and entry into service — with exposure to major operators, ROSCOs, OEMs, and public bodies.

The role:

  • You’ll lead the delivery of electrical and electronic engineering solutions, providing high-quality consultancy while ensuring compliance with UK and EU railway standards.
  • Key elements include:
  • Electrical systems integration and vehicle modification projects
  • Train control and protection systems upgrades
  • Production and approval of design packs, schematics, calculations, and test documentation
  • Leading verification & validation, static/dynamic testing, and readiness for service
  • Assurance against standards such as TSIs / NTSNs and EN 50126 (Functional Safety)
  • Mentoring engineers and leading technical work packages
  • Supporting bids, estimating, and customer engagement

What we’re looking for:

  • Strong electrical engineering background with rolling stock experience
  • Proven delivery of electrical systems integration and vehicle modifications
  • Solid understanding of railway standards, approvals, and assurance processes
  • Experience working across multi-disciplinary engineering projects
  • Confident communicator with the ability to engage customers and stakeholders

Desirable:

  • Chartered Engineer (or working towards)
  • Experience with TCMS, diagnostics, condition monitoring, or cybersecurity awareness
  • Exposure to bidding, estimating, or early-stage project work
