Assurance & Compliance Manager | QHSE & Internal Audit | Defence Technology
Welsh Borders | On-site | Permanent
From £40,000 + annual bonus + private medical
Most audit roles stop at checking that the boxes are ticked. This one asks whether the business actually works the way it says it does, and gives you the authority to fix it when it doesn't.
My client is a defence technology business that designs and builds equipment used by UK and allied forces on operations. It’s small enough that you’ll know everyone across the business, and it has the security of a larger defence group behind it. They’re now hiring an Assurance & Compliance Manager to give independent assurance that every department is meeting its legal, contractual and organisational obligations.
What you’ll own
- The internal audit programme across every business function, from engineering and production to commercial and HR
- Health & Safety and Environmental Management Systems
- Non-conformance investigations, corrective actions and continual improvement
- ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification, including leading external audits
- Assurance reporting to the senior leadership team
- Leading and developing a small assurance team
You’ll report to the director responsible for governance and compliance.
What you’ll bring
- Extensive auditing experience in an ISO-certified environment
- Advanced knowledge across Quality, H&S and Environmental management systems (all three, not just one)
- Strong investigation, analysis and reporting skills
- Experience managing people and influencing senior stakeholders
- Internal or Lead Auditor qualification
- Defence, aerospace or another regulated manufacturing background helps, but strong QHSE auditors from other sectors are welcome
Why this one?
You'd cover the whole of QHSE, not a narrow slice of it. You'd be close enough to the leadership team that your findings change how things are done, and you'd be working in a business whose products protect people in the field. You'd also have a team of your own to develop.
The package includes 25 days’ holiday (rising with service), annual bonus, private medical after probation, flexible working, a casual dress code and free on-site parking.
Please note:
due to the nature of the work, you’ll need to be eligible for UK security clearance. Many roles require at least 5 years’ continuous UK residency.
