Job Description
We're looking for an experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development of next-generation optic and connector solutions for high-performance industries. If you thrive in a fast-paced engineering environment where you can take ownership of projects from concept to completion, this could be a great next step.
You'll be responsible for guiding new product design and improving existing lines, applying your deep knowledge of mechanical principles to develop solutions that are not only functional, but commercially viable and manufacturable.
This role will suit someone confident in their technical decision-making and comfortable leading engineering efforts with minimal supervision.
What you’ll be doing:
- Designing and developing new fibre optic products and connector technologies
- Upgrading and improving legacy designs, drawings, and manufacturing documentation
- Leading design programs from initial concept through to prototyping and production handover
- Reviewing and approving technical drawings and design documentation
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams – including supply chain, product managers and legal – to align on timelines, patents, and deliverables
- Supporting and mentoring junior engineers, while maintaining high technical standards
- Presenting progress reports and leading project updates for internal stakeholders
- Visiting clients alongside product and sales teams to support with design concepts
- Contributing to patent filings and IP documentation where applicable
Experience Required:
- Strong working experience in Solidworks 3D CAD knowledge is required
- Proven experience in Fiber Optics or Connector Design required
- Plastics background a plus
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written – must interface successfully with other engineers, non-technical employees and with customers
- Ability to travel internationally and domestically as needed
- Computer experience including all Microsoft Office software programs
