Role Overview
Lead the delivery of electrical engineering solutions and systems integration across rolling stock projects. Provide consultancy across the full lifecycle—from feasibility and design to testing and entry into service—supporting operators, ROSCOs, OEMs, and public bodies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical systems integration projects, ensuring safety and compliance.
- Manage upgrades to train control, protection systems, and vehicle electrical interfaces.
- Produce and review design documentation (schematics, calculations, FMEAs, test plans, reports).
- Lead design reviews, verification & validation, and testing activities.
- Ensure compliance with TSIs/NTSNs, Railway Group Standards, and EN 50126.
- Support modification projects, obsolescence, and whole-life cost analysis.
- Manage work packages to time, cost, and quality targets.
- Contribute to bids, cost estimates, and technical proposals.
- Build strong client and supplier relationships.
- Mentor engineers and support team development.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Electrical engineering background (rolling stock desirable).
- Experience in electrical systems integration and vehicle modifications.
- Strong design capability, including feasibility studies and fault finding.
- Knowledge of railway standards, approvals, and safety processes.
- Experience producing technical documentation and cost estimates.
- Proven delivery on complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
Desirable
- Chartered or working towards via Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or equivalent.
- Experience with TCMS, diagnostics, condition monitoring, and cybersecurity.
- Familiarity with CAD/design tools and reliability analysis methods.
- Experience with ITTs, FMCEA, and maintenance optimisation strategies.
