We’re supporting a well-established rail engineering consultancy to appoint an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to work across a diverse portfolio of passenger, freight, metro, and light rail rolling stock projects.
This is a technically senior role offering real ownership across the full project lifecycle — from feasibility and design through to integration, assurance, testing, and entry into service — with exposure to major operators, ROSCOs, OEMs, and public bodies.
The role
- You’ll lead the delivery of electrical and electronic engineering solutions, providing high-quality consultancy while ensuring compliance with UK and EU railway standards.
- Key elements include:
- Electrical systems integration and vehicle modification projects
- Train control and protection systems upgrades
- Production and approval of design packs, schematics, calculations, and test documentation
- Leading verification & validation, static/dynamic testing, and readiness for service
- Assurance against standards such as TSIs / NTSNs and EN 50126 (Functional Safety)
- Mentoring engineers and leading technical work packages
- Supporting bids, estimating, and customer engagement
What we’re looking for
- Strong electrical engineering background with rolling stock experience
- Proven delivery of electrical systems integration and vehicle modifications
- Solid understanding of railway standards, approvals, and assurance processes
- Experience working across multi-disciplinary engineering projects
- Confident communicator with the ability to engage customers and stakeholders
Desirable:
- Chartered Engineer (or working towards)
- Experience with TCMS, diagnostics, condition monitoring, or cybersecurity awareness
- Exposure to bidding, estimating, or early-stage project work
