Are you an experienced Construction Supervisor / Clerk of Works with a strong background in tunnelling and water infrastructure?
I’m working with a specialist engineering company delivering high-risk, technically complex infrastructure projects. The business provides end-to-end engineering expertise across civil, structural, and geotechnical disciplines, taking ownership of some of the industry's most challenging frontline engineering problems.
My client is acting as the Independent Technical Authority (ITA) on major infrastructure programme to upgrade miles of old tunnels.
The Role
As Construction Supervisor, you will provide independent construction supervision and assurance, ensuring works are delivered safely and in accordance with design, quality and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervising construction activities across multiple project phases, from compound construction through to excavation, tunnelling and commissioning of potable water assets
- Reviewing and verifying construction drawings, specifications and contractor submissions
- Monitoring contractor activities and maintaining detailed site records, inspection reports and progress documentation
- Challenging and escalating non‑compliant or unsuitable construction practices
- Providing independent assurance to the client
- Overseeing health, safety and environmental compliance, including medium‑risk confined space activities
- Carrying out regular site inspections, verification checks and quality assurance activities
- Liaising with contractors, project stakeholders and the Principal Construction Supervisor
- Ensuring works comply with relevant water industry standards, client requirements and legislation
- Maintaining accurate and auditable project documentation throughout the construction lifecycle
- Supporting the successful delivery of critical potable water infrastructure
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with:
- 10–15 years’ relevant construction experience
- Significant tunnelling experience within the water industry
- Experience of commissioning potable water assets
- Demonstrable commercial construction experience
- Professional qualification/membership such as MCIOB, MICE, MIMechM or equivalent
- CSCS White or Black Card
- CITB SMSTS
- NEBOSH
- TSTS
- C&G 6151
- EUSR Water Hygiene
- Qualification/experience working within medium‑risk confined space environments
- A commitment to ongoing CPD
Location & Working Pattern
The initial project site is based in just north of Manchester.
The role is site‑based, working approximately 50 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexibility to work weekends when required to observe critical construction activities.
