Salary - £85k Days, £95k Nights

Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off, 10-hour shifts (Permanent Days or Nights)

Role Purpose

Lead and manage depot-based maintenance teams to ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient maintenance, modification, and release to service of rolling stock assets in a safety-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage Technicians (circa 16 staff).
  • Ensure rolling stock is maintained, inspected, and released in accordance with safety, regulatory, and company standards.
  • Plan and prioritise shift workloads to meet maintenance and reliability targets.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Chair daily production meetings and coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Operate and oversee the electronic asset management system (e.g. Maximo).
  • Maintain accurate maintenance, defect, and compliance records.
  • Deputise for the Depot Manager as required.
  • Manage indirect overtime expenditure (~£100k p.a.).
  • Drive continuous improvement through Lean and 5S methodologies.

People & Leadership

  • Manage performance, attendance, competence, and development of team members.
  • Support training, familiarisation, and apprenticeship programmes.
  • Identify development needs and coach team members to build a high-performing team.
  • Manage conduct and disciplinary matters in line with company policy.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Essential: ONC / HNC / HND / NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline.
  • Leadership experience within a safety-critical environment.
  • Experience in rolling stock or heavy engineering operations.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a shift-based environment.
  • High standards of professionalism, integrity, and safety awareness.
