The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced

Rolling Stock Mechanical Fitter to join a leading rail organisation based in South London.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on mechanical professional to work on the maintenance, overhaul and modification of rolling stock vehicles, playing a key role in ensuring fleet reliability, safety and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and corrective mechanical maintenance activities on rolling stock.
  • Diagnose and rectify mechanical faults efficiently and safely.
  • Undertake component replacement, overhaul and refurbishment work.
  • Perform inspections in line with maintenance procedures and standards.
  • Complete all maintenance documentation accurately and on time.
  • Support fleet modification and improvement programmes.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with safety, quality and engineering standards.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, production and operational teams.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have

  • Previous experience working as a Mechanical Fitter, Rolling Stock Technician or similar engineering position.
  • Strong mechanical fault‑finding and repair skills.
  • Experience working within rail, heavy engineering, manufacturing, military, automotive or a comparable engineering environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • A proactive approach to safety and quality.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Previous rolling stock maintenance experience.
  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • Experience working within a depot, workshop or fleet maintenance environment.
