We are seeking an experienced Rolling Stock Fitter to join our engineering team based in Ipswich. The Role

As a Rolling Stock Fitter, you will be responsible for the servicing, maintenance, fault finding and repair of locomotives, components and associated equipment. Working as part of a dedicated engineering team, you will help ensure the fleet remains safe, reliable and available for operational service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out maintenance, servicing and repairs on locomotives in accordance with approved maintenance plans.
  • Diagnose faults and undertake effective rectification activities.
  • Ensure all work is completed to engineering standards and railway safety requirements.
  • Complete examination, maintenance and repair documentation accurately and on time.
  • Record materials and components used during maintenance activities.
  • Repair, test and commission plant and equipment as required.
  • Support the maintenance of vehicle history and maintenance records.
  • Assist Team Leaders and Supervisors during maintenance and repair activities.
  • Attend safety, quality and technical briefings.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping within workshop and depot facilities.

  • Comply with all health, safety and environmental policies, procedures and standards.

About You

  • We're looking for someone who is safety-focused, mechanically minded and passionate about engineering excellence.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in traction and rolling stock maintenance, repair and fault finding, or equivalent heavy engineering experience.
  • Strong mechanical fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to make sound engineering decisions in a safety‑critical environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
  • Experience working on locomotives, rolling stock or rail vehicles.
  • Competence in carriage and wagon examination and maintenance.
