GTS Group is recruiting on behalf of a leading organisation within the UK rail sector for an experienced Facilities Manager to oversee the management and maintenance of operational rail facilities.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring rail depots, offices, workshops and operational buildings remain safe, compliant and fully operational. You'll be responsible for managing maintenance programmes, statutory compliance, contractors and facilities projects while supporting critical rail operations.

The Role

Reporting into the Head of Property or Engineering, you'll take ownership of multiple facilities across the rail estate, ensuring all sites operate safely, efficiently and in full compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of rail depots, offices, maintenance facilities and operational buildings.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory regulations, including Health & Safety, Fire Safety, Water Hygiene, Asbestos Management, Electrical Testing and Gas Safety.
  • Manage Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programmes and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Lead facilities improvement projects, refurbishments and minor capital works.
  • Manage external contractors and suppliers, ensuring contractual KPIs and service levels are achieved.
  • Oversee facilities budgets and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO standards and rail industry requirements where applicable.
  • Support business continuity planning and emergency response procedures.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Operations and Health & Safety teams to minimise disruption to rail services.
  • Maintain accurate compliance records, asset information and maintenance documentation.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the estate.

About You

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Previous experience as a Facilities Manager, Estates Manager or Building Services Manager.
  • Experience managing facilities within the rail, transport, infrastructure, engineering or industrial sectors.
  • Excellent knowledge of statutory compliance and facilities legislation.
  • Experience managing contractors and service providers.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation.
  • Experience delivering maintenance programmes and facilities projects.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • IWFM qualification (or working towards).
  • Experience working within a safety-critical environment.
  • Knowledge of Network Rail standards and rail industry compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing depot or operational facilities.
