Mentored Estimator / Site Engineer Vacancy – Rail & Civils | East Midlands

Can you price a project but want to spend less time travelling and more time developing your career? I’m working with a major rail and civils contractor that is looking to strengthen its commercial team with an experienced Estimator who understands project delivery and wants to take the next step into estimating. The business has already secured a number of major contracts, diversified its client portfolio and has ambitious plans to grow by £70m over the next five years. Commercial capability is central to that growth strategy, making this an excellent time to join the team.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for producing accurate cost estimates, proposals, and competitive bids across a diverse range of rail and civils projects, typically ranging from £50k to £4m. The work includes:

  • Geotechnical and earthworks
  • Drainage
  • Bridges
  • De-vegetation
  • Fencing
  • Nailing and netting
  • Walls and ancillary structures
  • Framework and major contract tendering

You’ll work closely with senior leadership, helping shape the future pipeline, identify new opportunities, and support the continued growth of the business. Framework tendering experience would be particularly valuable.

Why consider it?

  • Hybrid working
  • Based from the east Midlands
  • Significantly less travel than a typical site-based role
  • Stay away approximately once every other month
  • Projects ranging from £50k–£4m
  • Opportunity to develop specialist estimating expertise
  • Collaborative team with low staff turnover
  • Strong team spirit and supportive working environment
  • Major contracts already secured
  • Long-term growth and progression opportunities

With a significant shortage of experienced estimating capability in the UK, this is a great opportunity for someone with a site delivery / construction background who has the ability to price projects and wants to build a career in estimating. If you're currently delivering projects and thinking “I could price that”, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.
