The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Head of Delivery – Railway Infrastructure to lead the successful delivery of a major rail infrastructure programme within Europe. This is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing programme execution, stakeholder management, commercial performance, and delivery governance across a complex, high-profile rail environment. The successful candidate will provide strategic direction to multidisciplinary delivery teams while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with programme objectives. This is an international contract assignment requiring travel to an EU country, with on-site presence expected Monday through Thursday each week. Travel and accommodation arrangements will be discussed as part of the engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of large-scale railway infrastructure projects and programmes.
- Provide strategic leadership across project management, engineering, commercial, planning, and delivery functions.
- Ensure programme milestones, budgets, quality standards, and safety objectives are achieved.
- Manage senior stakeholder relationships including clients, contractors, government bodies, and regulatory authorities.
- Drive programme governance, reporting, risk management, and performance monitoring.
- Oversee contract delivery and commercial management activities.
- Lead and develop multidisciplinary teams across multiple project workstreams.
- Ensure compliance with railway industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Support executive-level decision-making through accurate reporting and strategic recommendations.
Essential Experience
- Extensive experience leading major railway infrastructure projects or programmes.
- Proven track record operating at Director, Head of Delivery, Programme Director, or equivalent senior leadership level.
- Strong understanding of rail infrastructure delivery, including civils, systems, stations, track, signalling, or major transportation programmes.
- Experience managing complex stakeholder environments and international project teams.
- Demonstrable success delivering large-scale projects within demanding programme schedules.
- Strong commercial and contractual management experience.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and influencing skills.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working on European rail infrastructure programmes.
- Knowledge of major rail delivery frameworks and international standards.
- Background working within high-value, multi-contractor environments.
- Additional language skills would be advantageous but are not essential.
