Configuration Manager | Defence Technology | South West Midlands
When a product protects people on operations, "which version did we ship?" can't be a hard question. My client designs electronic systems for defence and security customers worldwide, and they need someone to own configuration and change control across the business.
They're an established, R&D-led defence technology company with secure long-term backing. The team is small and hands-on, so this role carries real weight. You'll set the standard for how
products are baselined, changed and audited, rather than administering someone else's system.
What you'll do
- Write and maintain Configuration Management Plans for projects and programmes
- Define and control product baselines throughout the lifecycle
- Run the engineering change process end to end, coordinating CRs and ECOs
- Chair Configuration Control Boards, from agendas and decision packs to tracking actions to close
- Maintain configuration records, product structures and released documentation
- Produce status accounting reports for customers, programme managers and senior leadership
- Support audits and compliance with DEF STANs, ISO 9001 and AS9100
- Improve the processes and tools, and train engineering teams on best practice
What you'll bring
- Configuration management experience in an engineering, manufacturing, aerospace or defence environment
- A solid grasp of configuration identification, change control, status accounting, and verification and audit
- Experience running formal engineering change processes and chairing or coordinating CCBs
- Strong organisation, attention to detail and report writing
- Confidence with Jira and Confluence, plus some Python or C/C++ capability
Nice to have
- Familiarity with DEF STAN configuration guidance and ISO 10007
- PLM, PDM or ERP systems
- Experience supporting design reviews and programme governance
- Your work keeps operational kit traceable and supportable in service
- A role where you build the CM function's standards, not just follow them
- Stability and investment without the bureaucracy of a large prime
- A countryside location with lower living costs, commutable from Hereford, Gloucester, Monmouth and Cheltenham
Permanent role. You'll need to be able to obtain SC clearance.
