We’re looking for a driven and experienced Fleet Assurance Manager to lead safety assurance across our rolling stock operations. This is a high-impact role where you’ll ensure the continuous improvement of fleet safety, embed effective assurance practices, and drive engineering excellence across our operations.

You’ll also step into a strategic leadership pathway — beginning as Deputy Professional Head of Engineering , with a view to progressing into the full position.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Fleet Safety Oversight: Ensure the highest standards of fleet safety, managing safety-related defects and driving performance improvements.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead root cause investigations into fleet-related service incidents and implement preventative solutions.
  • Engineering Leadership: Serve as Deputy Professional Head of Engineering, progressing into the full role with accountability for engineering standards.
  • Strategic Fleet Management: Oversee technical assessments of fleet changes, ensuring alignment with commercial, financial, and delivery priorities.
  • Third-Party Assurance: Develop and deliver a robust assurance programme for external maintenance suppliers.

What We’re Looking For

  • Rail Engineering Experience: In-depth knowledge of UK rolling stock systems, particularly EMUs, and the engineering change process.
  • Safety & Compliance Expertise: Proven experience in incident investigation, safety management, and working with UK rolling stock standards.
  • Detail-Oriented: Strong documentation review skills with a keen eye for accuracy.
  • Leadership & Influence: A confident communicator and proactive self-starter who can represent engineering priorities with clarity and authority.
  • Education: Degree-qualified in an engineering discipline; chartership preferred or actively working towards it.
