GTR are recruiting a Data Analyst based out of Monument Place. This is a great opportunity for an individual with a proven track record to work for one of the country's busiest and award-winning rail companies.

Job Purpose

As a Central Data Analyst, you will act as a key link between the central Data & AI function and the wider analyst community across GTR. You will support the use and adoption of the DataHub platform by helping the business frame data problems effectively, shaping early analytical solutions, and ensuring consistent documentation, training and communication. The role combines hands-on analysis with coordination and enablement, focusing particularly on cross-departmental problems where insight requires collaboration between subject matter experts from different business domains.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Coordinate and support the GTR data and analytics community, acting as a central point of contact for analysts distributed across the business.
  • Work with business stakeholders to understand the underlying problem a data solution is seeking to address, helping translate business questions into clear analytical use cases.
  • Design and build proof of concept analyses and lightweight data solutions within Microsoft Fabric and Power BI, handing over more complex requirements to Data Engineers where appropriate.
  • Build simple end-to-end data models for straightforward use cases, while recognising when additional engineering support is required.
  • Produce UAT documentation and support testing activities to ensure delivered data products meet business needs.
  • Provide clear project updates, making stakeholders aware of progress, risks and next steps throughout delivery.
  • Support and respond to queries from the business relating to Power BI, data models and the Fabric platform.
  • Assist with managing data access requests and permissions, ensuring requests are processed in line with agreed governance.
  • Ensure platform documentation is clear, up to date and accessible, supporting consistent use of DataHub products.
  • Help develop and maintain training materials to support adoption of Power BI and the wider Fabric platform.
  • Focus analytical effort on cross-departmental problems, bridging different subject matter experts to produce joined-up insight.

Knowledge:

  • Solid understanding of analytical concepts and how data supports business decision-making.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft's data and analytics stack, particularly Power BI and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Awareness of data governance, access control and platform standards in an enterprise environment.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-structuring skills, with the ability to understand and articulate business problems clearly.
  • Ability to build clear, simple analytical solutions on Microsoft Fabric and proof of concepts of more complex issues.
  • Strong communication skills, able to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Good organisational skills, including documentation, coordination and stakeholder updates.
  • Collaborative mindset, with the ability to bridge subject matter experts across different business domains.

Experience:

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in a STEM-related discipline.
  • 2-3 years' experience working with the Microsoft data stack, including Power BI and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Experience in user acceptance testing and pushing projects through the development to production lifecycle.
  • Experience working within a complex, multi-site or distributed organisation is desirable.
  • Microsoft certification such as PL300 (or equivalent) is desirable.

What we can offer you:

  • Final salary pension.
  • 25 days holiday plus.
