Reporting to the Fleet Operations Manager within the Engineering Production team, the post holder will be responsible for management of all rolling stock movements within the defined depots, ensuring that the processes used are adhered to and are effectively executed to deliver the train service, maintenance plans and cleaning/servicing activities. The post holder will be responsible for setting up the daily service and ensuring that robust and efficient plans are in place to manage the fleets to the defined maintenance plan as set out by Fleet Control. The post holder will be responsible for managing a team of Shunter Drivers to ensure that the daily service and maintenance/cleaning requirements are effectively delivered.
Key Accountabilities
- Control the movements of rolling stock around the yard in a safe, punctual and efficient manner;
- Achieving the highest levels of depot operational safety; reduction in depot operating errors/incidents/accidents;
- Achieving the highest levels of depot operational performance; reduction in planning errors, late starts off depot;
- Ensure that the unit servicing requirements are met;
- Well motivated and engaged team;
- One GTR engineering team approach, delivering the needs of the wider business as well as those of the depot;
- Management of depot operations in a cost effective manner.
Key results area (How those Expected Outcomes will be achieved)
- Responsible for operating the signal control panel to control the movement of rolling stock around the defined depot;
- Responsible for following the depot operational processes and procedures to ensure that the depot is managed in a safe and controlled manner;
- Responsible for ensuring that all staff are adhering to the processes, procedures and standards which are set out;
- Responsible for line manager responsibilities for the Shunter Drivers;
- Responsible for recording the cause of operational delays and keeping relevant company systems up to date;
- Responsible for ensuring that the training and competency of Shunter Drivers are managed effectively;
- Responsible for monitoring operational safety & performance and looking at ways to continuously improve;
- Responsible in liaising with Train Planning, Fleet Control and the FOM to ensure that the timetable aspirations and depot's maintenance/cleaning requirements are met;
- Responsible for ensuring the maintenance plan is realised as set out either by the depot or Fleet Control;
- Carry out investigations into accidents and incidents in the workplace in accordance with the Safety and Standards Manual;
- Identify and lead opportunities for continuous improvement in order to deliver improved outcomes;
- Completion of other activities as directed by the Fleet Operations Manager to support the delivery of GTR's objectives.
