Our team in Battersea are looking for a Service Engineer Level 2 to join the team. In this role, you will play a key part in maintaining and repairing our fleet, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the required technical standards.

You will work closely with your Team Leader and Production Manager, taking responsibility for a variety of engineering tasks while contributing to a positive and collaborative team environment.

What We’re Looking For

  • Completion of an Apprenticeship or skills development programme equivalent to NVQ Level 3
  • A strong understanding of rolling stock engineering (demonstrated through interview or assessment)
  • Familiarity with the rolling stock maintained or repaired by Southern
  • The ability to meet Engineering medical standards
  • Eligibility to complete PTS and Designated Person (Track) training
  • Competence in fault-finding on units
  • A willingness to develop new skills related to train maintenance
  • The capability to brief, coach, advise, and mentor colleagues

What you’ll be doing?

  • Carrying out repairs or additional work identified during examinations (Mechanical, Electrical or Vehicle Building)
  • Completing component changes and heavy lifts when required
  • Working effectively within the team, including taking the lead when appropriate
  • Following all safety procedures and responsibilities
  • Completing relevant documentation accurately
  • Taking a proactive approach to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
