Selhurst Depot Exam Lead – Nights
Lead the work that keeps our trains moving. We’re looking for an experienced and motivated Exam Lead to join our Selhurst Depot on nights. This is a key role where you’ll combine hands‑on engineering with team leadership, ensuring maintenance and fault‑finding activities are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and coordinate teams carrying out routine exams, maintenance and repairs.
- Act as the key link between the team and Production Office, ensuring clear communication.
- Carry out fault finding and hands‑on engineering work.
- Coach and mentor team members to support development and performance.
- Ensure all work is completed in line with maintenance plans and safety standards.
- Update and maintain accurate records within company systems.
- Drive continuous improvement, identifying ways to improve quality and efficiency.
- Support wider depot activities where trained (e.g. DP, forklift).
What We’re Looking For
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles.
- Minimum SE1 competency.
- At least 2.5 years’ experience in a rolling stock or similar engineering environment.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and support teams.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with a safety‑first mindset.
- Positive, professional attitude and strong working relationships.
- Coaching or mentoring experience (or willingness to work towards qualification).
- Able to meet medical and safety‑critical competency standards.
- Willing to learn and develop new skills relevant to the role.
- Ability to work night shifts in a fast‑paced depot environment.
