We are looking for a motivated Assistant Service Engineer – Level 2 to join our busy engineering team at Stewarts Lane Depot Battersea, playing a key role in keeping our trains safe, reliable, and ready for service. This is a practical, fast-paced role where no two days are the same. From routine maintenance and fault finding to component changes, you will be right at the heart of railway operations, gaining valuable electrical and mechanical experience in a live engineering environment.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Carrying out routine maintenance and repair work in line with train specifications
- Performing mechanical, electrical and vehicle-building repairs
- Conducting train examinations to identify and diagnose faults
- Completing component changes and heavy lifts safely and efficiently
- Responding to and attending failed units, including outside depot locations
- Complying with all safety systems, procedures and standards
- Completing required documentation and maintenance records
- Supporting colleagues and working effectively as part of a close-knit team
- Assisting with additional tasks as required to keep operations running smoothly
- Mentoring and supporting new entrants to the team
What We’re Looking For
Mandatory Requirements
- A basic understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles
- Strong practical aptitude and a hands-on approach
- Physically fit and able to pass an Engineering standard medical
- Ability to pass a PTS course (unless specifically exempt)
Skills & Experience
- Familiarity with rolling stock maintenance (or willingness to learn through training)
- A proactive approach to learning new skills within train maintenance
- Confidence working in a safety-critical environment
