Job Description
The Urban Driver Apprenticeship is a 15‑month programme where apprentices learn all aspects of professional driving and gain their Category C1 (7.5 t) licence, with the aim of moving to a full‑time 7.5 t Driver position within DX upon completion. Responsibilities include non‑driving duties relevant to the role such as office work, drivers’ mate and warehousing during training. Apprentices will also undergo training to build knowledge, skills and behaviours, and will obtain CPC licences as part of the programme – a legal requirement for driving LGV vehicles.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Represent DX professionally at all times.
- Carry out all tasks required as part of the apprenticeship training.
- Drive vehicles safely and legally, ensuring compliance with all legal and company requirements.
- Perform all daily checks, report defects immediately and complete correct paperwork.
- Scan all products using DX scanning equipment.
- Ensure deliveries are loaded safely before leaving the depot.
- Observe DX procedures and policies at all times.
- Manage routing to achieve premium and timed deliveries.
- Maintain and use required PPE in good order at all times.
- Report delivery and on‑road issues to the traffic office immediately.
- Ensure customers receive deliveries in excellent condition every time.
- Deal with any customer issues politely and effectively.
- Ensure collections are made in line with given instructions and times.
Qualifications and Entry Requirements
Apprentices must be 18 or over and have a minimum of 12 months UK driving experience, and as a minimum have: Category B licence.
