About the role:

This apprenticeship offers the chance to advance your career in the automotive industry. You will learn all aspects of vehicle repair and maintenance, including vehicle servicing, MOT preparation, removal, replacement and overhaul of major components, and electrical fault diagnostics.

Typical day:

You will be based in the garage workshop and will be involved in learning all aspects of vehicle repair and maintenance, including vehicle servicing, MOT preparation, removal, replacement and overhaul of major components and electrical fault diagnostics.

Units covered:

  • Materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices used in the automotive environment
  • Inspection of heavy vehicles
  • Diagnosing and rectifying chassis units, including pneumatic braking systems and components
  • Diagnosing and rectifying vehicle engine and component faults, transmission faults and vehicle electrical system faults
  • Isolating and re-energising high-voltage systems on an electric vehicle
  • Ensuring actions reduce risks to health and safety
  • Contributing to workplace good housekeeping

What you will learn:

Through GTG training you will progress to an SCQF Level 7 in Heavy Goods and Public Service Vehicle Maintenance and Repair. Regular assessment and reviews will be undertaken within your own workplace with dedicated mentors from GTG and your workplace to ensure you acquire the required skills.

Qualifications:

National 4 or above in English, Maths, and either a Science or Technical subject.

Personal qualities:

  • Want to kick-start a career in the automotive industry and keen to learn.
  • Dedicated with a proactive approach to work and learning.
  • Able to prioritise and work to timelines.
  • Willing to work in a practical environment using your own initiative.
  • Full UK driving licence preferred but not essential.
