Role Overview
An apprenticeship in one of Halfords Autocentres offers an opportunity to work full time in a Halfords workshop, encountering a wide range of vehicles from servicing and inspections to complex repairs, engine rebuilds and diagnostics. You'll develop technical and diagnostic skills, work independently or as part of a team, and contribute to workshop commercial goals while maintaining high customer focus and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine servicing and inspections on a variety of vehicles.
- Diagnose and repair complex faults using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Replace or repair simple parts and build diagnostic expertise.
- Work independently while supporting team members and understanding workshop operations.
- Maintain the highest standard of vehicle repair, safety, and customer service.
Working week
Autocentre opening hours 08:00–18:00 (6/7 days per week). 5‑day working week. Total hours: 40 hrs for up to 18 years, 44 hrs for over 18 years.

Training and Qualifications
During the programme apprentices will gain the knowledge and skills required to become competent technicians. Topics covered include workplace safety, engineering skills, vehicle inspection and servicing, maintenance, repair, and diagnosing faults around the engine, chassis and electrical systems. Regular assessment and reviews will be undertaken within the apprentice's workplace with dedicated mentors from GTG and the apprentice’s workplace, ensuring they have the necessary skills to complete the apprenticeship. You will train through GTG, attending block release training weeks, to Level 2 Autocare Technician with the chance to continue training to Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance.
Qualifications Required
GCSE Level 5 or above in Maths and English.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an online screening interview with GTG. Candidates must be available to attend an in‑person assessment day at GTG Wolverhampton in June/July 2026, which will include a practical session and an interview with a member of the Halfords management team. Successful applicants will receive offers for a Summer 2026 start. Apprentices will begin training with GTG from August/September.
