The Urban Driver Apprenticeship is a month programme where apprentices will learn all aspects of professional driving and obtain their Category C1 (7.5t) licence, with a view to moving to a full‑time 7.5t Driver position after completion. Responsibilities include non‑driving duties such as office work, driver’s mate and warehousing during training. Apprentices also undertake a range of training alongside their daily role, building knowledge, skills and behaviours. Apprentices will obtain CPC licences as part of the programme, a legal requirement to drive LGV vehicles.
Key Tasks / Areas of responsibility
- Represent DX in a professional manner at all times
- Carry out all tasks required as part of the apprenticeship training
- Drive vehicles in a safe and legal manner, ensuring compliance with all legal and company requirements at all times
- Ensure all daily checks are undertaken, defects reported immediately and correct paperwork completed
- Scan all products using DX scanning equipment
- Load all deliveries safely prior to leaving the depot
- Observe DX procedures and policies at all times
- Manage routing to ensure premium and timed deliveries are achieved
- Use correct equipment and PPE, ensuring it is in good order and used at all times
- Report all delivery and on‑road issues to the traffic office immediately
- Deliver products to customers in excellent condition every time
- Deal with any customer issues politely and effectively
- Make collections in line with given instructions and times
Qualifications / Entry Requirements
Apprentices must be 18 or over and have a minimum of 12 months of UK driving experience. Minimum requirement: Category B licence.
