GTG Training are recruiting for an Apprentice Bus and Coach Mechanic on behalf of JMB Travel. This is a fantastic opportunity for those who are ready to advance their career within the automotive industry. The Modern Apprenticeship Programmes allow apprentices to work full time and earn while they learn, putting theory into practice within a training environment. Regular assessment and reviews will be undertaken within the apprentice's own workplace to ensure they have the required skills to successfully complete their apprenticeship.
Why choose JMB? JMB Travel are a family-owned local independent bus operator based in Wishaw, established in 2009, serving local communities across North & South Lanarkshire and Greater Glasgow. JMB Travel employ over 100 people across the business and have a dedicated multi-skilled engineering function overseeing the maintenance of their fleet of mainly Volvo buses and coaches. They are also investing in brand new state-of-the-art workshop facilities and are looking to strengthen their growing Engineering team.

Typical day You will be based within the garage workshop and will be involved in learning all aspects of vehicle repair and maintenance, including vehicle servicing, MOT preparation, removal, replacement and overhaul of major components and electrical fault diagnostics. Examples of the units covered are:
- Materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices used in the automotive environment.
- Inspection of heavy vehicles.
- Diagnosing and rectifying chassis units including pneumatic braking systems and components.
- Diagnosing and rectifying vehicle engine and component faults, vehicle transmission and component faults and vehicle electrical system faults.
- Isolating and re-energising high voltage systems on an electric vehicle.
- Ensuring your own actions reduce risks to health and safety.
- Contributing to workplace good housekeeping.
What will I learn? Regular assessment and reviews will be undertaken within the apprentice's own workplace with dedicated mentors from GTG and the apprentice’s workplace, which aims to ensure they have the required skills to successfully complete their apprenticeship. You will train through GTG to SCQF Level 7 in Heavy Goods and Public Service Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
Qualifications or qualities You must have or expect to gain National 4 or above in English, Maths, and either a Science or Technical Subject.
Personal qualities We are looking for candidates who want to kickstart their career in the automotive industry and who are keen to learn. You must be dedicated and have a proactive approach to your work and learning. You should be able to prioritise and work to timelines, with a willingness to work in a practical environment using your own initiative. A full UK Driving licence is preferred but not essential.
