Evans Halshaw are currently looking for an apprentice to join their well-established team. This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring technician to begin their career in the fastest-growing cutting-edge electric vehicle industry.

As an apprentice, you will work alongside experienced technicians, gaining hands-on experience while completing a Level 2 Autocare Technician Apprenticeship, with progression onto the level 3 motor vehicle technician standard. Evans Halshaw is one of the UK’s largest and most established automotive retail groups, operating a nationwide network of over 100 dealerships and representing multiple leading vehicle manufacturers.

What Might a Typical Day in this Job look like?

  • You will be based within the garage workshop and will be involved in learning all aspects of vehicle repair and maintenance, including vehicle servicing, MOT preparation, removal, replacement and overhaul of major components and electrical fault diagnostics.
  • Examples of the units covered are:
    • Materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices used in the automotive environment
    • Inspection of light vehicles
    • Diagnosing and rectifying chassis units and components
    • Diagnosing and rectifying vehicle engines and component faults
    • Supporting the maintenance and repair of electric and hybrid vehicles
    • Learning how to carry out vehicle inspections and servicing
    • Assisting with diagnostics and fault finding
    • Working with experienced technicians in a modern workshop environment
    • Following safe working practices, especially around EV systems
    • Contributing to workplace good housekeeping
    • Ensuring your own actions reduce risks to health and safety

Monday to Friday 8am – 5pm 40 Hours

Regular assessment and reviews will be undertaken within the apprentice’s own workplace with dedicated mentors in the apprentice’s workplace. The Modern Apprenticeship Programmes allow apprentices to work full time and earn while they learn putting theory into practice within a training environment. As well as attending the training venue for block week release of training, regular assessment and reviews will be undertaken within the apprentice's own workplace which aims to ensure they have the required skills to successfully complete their apprenticeship. You will train through GTG, by attending block release training weeks, to Level 2 Autocare Technician and Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician.

What qualifications or qualities are required?

  • GCSE Level 4 or above in Maths and English

  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • You can prioritise and work to timelines.
  • A willingness to work in a practical environment using your own initiative
  • A full UK Driving licence is not essential but preferred.
