Purpose of this role
The Design Engineer – Multi-Utility Design will liaise with internal and external parties to design multi-utility networks for new housing, mixed-use, and industrial and commercial projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Achieve technical competence with relevant authority and authorise design work in line with the Delegation of Authority Guidelines.
- Assist with training and mentoring of Planning Engineers.
- Undertake demand calculations, network drawings and variations and ensure network designs are fit for purpose, legislatively compliant and in accordance with Company and industry standards.
- Design innovative engineering solutions that satisfy both our customer needs and the needs of internal stakeholders - provide lowest cost for greatest benefit.
- Liaise with our clients to understand the requirements and constraints on their projects.
- Calculate contract variation costs and produce variation orders for clients.
- Attend meetings with Clients, Network Operators, and other companies as required.
- Liaise with other departments and companies across the BUUK group to ensure the safe and efficient construction of projects.
- Achieve high customer satisfaction with our design / variation processes.
Experience and Knowledge
- Experience in construction or utilities sector.
Abilities and Skills
- Excellent communication skills.
- Microsoft Office.
Desirable
- Engineering Degree.
- Engineering Council Membership at EngTech or above.
- Experience in the design of utilities, preferably electricity distribution networks.
- Awareness of current Legislation, Technical Standards & Specifications relating to utility distribution networks, and an awareness of the implications to the safe management of networks based on these procedures.
- Project Management skills.
