Purpose

The Network Outage Engineer leads the coordination of outages across the electricity network and supports Control Engineers during operational incidents or technical challenges. The role also contributes to improving, maintaining, and reporting key Electricity Operations systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate planned outages across GTC’s electricity network up to 33kV.
  • Ensure all operational documentation relating to outage plans and safety records are completed accurately and submitted in line with company standards.
  • Provide support to Control Engineers during operational situations, faults, and switching activities.
  • Lead or support fault response activities, liaising with DNOs and contractors to restore supply efficiently.
  • Support the development and improvement of Electricity Operations systems, processes and tools to enhance operational performance.
  • Contribute to monthly operational reporting, including outage performance, incidents, and network performance data.
  • Assist with technical and safety audits and support investigations into network or operational incidents.
  • Act as escalation point for emergency response and operational incidents.

Qualifications

  • HNC or Degree in Engineering, Energy Management or related subject.

Experience/Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of Distribution Networks.
  • Working knowledge of Electricity Legislation and regulations.

Abilities/Skills

  • Excellent communication skills with internal and external stakeholders where appropriate.
  • Ability to adapt and prioritise work depending on changes to network operations.

Desirable

  • Working towards IEng accreditation with a recognised institution.
  • Experience in contract management.
  • Experience working within regulated businesses.
  • Ability to project manage to assist in the development of Electricity Business Systems.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs or equivalent.

Conditions of Employment

  • Criminal records checked through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) due to handling and processing sensitive customer data.
  • Participation in a standby rota.
  • Must hold a driving licence.
