Purpose of this role

Responsible for the delivery activities of GTC’s gas network assets and the delivery of related work programmes and processes as allocated.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake a range of audits, site inspections and provide technical advice to ensure compliance with company policies and the fitness for purpose of assets and activities taking place on them, including work in progress audits for construction and maintenance activities.
  • Assist in ensuring gas assets are maintained and operated in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that company operations comply with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000, Pipeline Safety Regulations 1996 and DSEAR (including Initiator and Appraiser roles).
  • Ensure proactive management of hazards and risks identified by contractors and delivery partners; take ownership of their resolution, develop, and deliver appropriate action plans.
  • Work without direct supervision to evaluate and assess complex engineering solutions to network challenges, providing recommendations that align with business requirements and priorities.
  • Ensure assigned work programmes are completed in time and to budget, that may include but not limited to complex asset condition and risk surveys, e.g., CDS surveys, PSSR surveys, MOB surveys, complex and non‑complex work programmes.
  • Management of contractors, delivery partners or direct staff undertaking work on assigned projects or processes.
  • Undertake activities to support ongoing maintenance of company accreditations.
  • Respond to network emergencies to provide a site presence, leadership (including Bronze Commander) or assistance where required, incident investigation including RIDDOR and GSMR.

Qualifications

  • Eng Tech membership with a Professional Engineering Institution.
  • Level 4 qualification in an appropriate engineering discipline or working towards one.
  • Any other duties as required by the manager.

Experience/Knowledge

  • Significant operational experience in gas.
  • Significant knowledge, and implementation, of current Legislation, Technical Standards & Specifications, Codes of Practice and Recommendations relating to Gas systems and operations.

Abilities/Skills

  • Team working.

  • Good written and oral skills.

Desirable

  • Eng Tech membership with a Professional Engineering Institution.
  • Level 4 qualification in an appropriate engineering discipline or working towards one.
  • Relevant SHEA card.
  • NRSWA Supervisor.
  • CSCS registration.
  • AE and CP up to 7 bar.
  • GL/5 initiator.
  • Contract management.
  • Building Regulations relating to Multi‑occupancy Buildings and IGEM G/5.
  • The operation of PRIs.

Conditions of Employment

  • You are required to have your criminal records checked through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). This is due to going into customers’ homes.
  • You will be required to participate in a standby rota.
  • You will hold a driving licence.
