An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Technology Engineer to join a major rail infrastructure innovation programme focused on transforming inspection, maintenance, and asset management through emerging technologies.

This role will play a key part in driving innovation across a high-profile transport asset base, helping introduce automation, digital inspection tools, drone technology, AI-driven analytics, and remote condition monitoring solutions to improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

You will act as a technical authority across innovation projects, taking concepts from development and trial through to safe operational deployment within a highly regulated engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead innovation projects from concept through to operational deployment
  • Drive automation of manual inspection and maintenance activities
  • Introduce emerging technologies into live operational environments
  • Engage with maintenance teams, asset managers, and senior stakeholders
  • Ensure engineering assurance, compliance, and safety standards are met
  • Support business cases, benefits tracking, and operational adoption
Technology & Project Focus Areas
  • Digital inspection and automated visual monitoring
  • Drone inspection technology and associated data analysis
  • Remote condition monitoring and predictive maintenance
  • AI and machine-learning-led infrastructure monitoring
  • Vision and camera technologies for infrastructure inspections
  • OLE and track monitoring solutions
Essential Experience
  • Experience delivering innovation or technology deployment projects
  • Exposure to drones and inspection technologies
  • Strong technical understanding across software/systems environments
  • Knowledge of remote condition monitoring solutions
  • Ability to work autonomously and influence stakeholders
  • Experience within regulated engineering or infrastructure environments
Desirable Experience
  • Rail or transport infrastructure experience
  • Exposure to AiVR, One Big Circle, or similar inspection technologies
  • Knowledge of digital asset management or automated inspection systems
  • Experience with AI, automation, or computer vision technologies
