Our client is seeking skilled Mechanical Engineers to join their team based in Stafford. This is an excellent opportunity to play a vital role in supporting the UK’s defence capability by maintaining, refurbishing, and repairing a wide range of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) used by the Armed Forces.

You’ll be working in a hands‑on engineering environment, carrying out inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of mechanical systems and components. The role offers a diverse workload where no two days are the same, alongside a supportive team dedicated to quality and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out the inspection, survey, repair, and refurbishment of Ground Support Equipment in line with MOD standards.

Diagnose and resolve faults across mechanical systems and subsystems.

Undertake maintenance and testing on refuelling units, maintenance vehicles, and other ground support machinery.

Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to high quality standards.

Maintain accurate engineering and maintenance records.

Collaborate closely with colleagues and subject matter experts to deliver effective engineering solutions.

About You

You are a practical, detail‑oriented engineer with strong mechanical experience and a passion for problem‑solving. You’ll thrive in a workshop or depot environment and enjoy working as part of a team that supports essential defence operations.

Essential Skills & Experience

Proven experience in mechanical inspection, repair, or refurbishment.

Hands‑on background working with :

Vehicles, engines (diesel or petrol), hydraulics, or marine / aviation equipment.

Experience from automotive, RAF Trade Group 5, or heavy engineering environments is highly desirable.

Computer literate and comfortable maintaining electronic records.

Eligible or working towards EngTech registration in accordance with UK‑SPEC.

Qualifications

Level 4 qualification and advanced / higher apprenticeship; or

Level 3 qualification with a nationally recognised engineering apprenticeship and relevant experience
