The Opportunity
We are looking for experienced Senior Java Developers to join a large-scale digital transformation programme delivering critical public services. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior software engineer who enjoys working hands-on with modern Java technologies while providing technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to other developers. You will play a key role in designing, developing and maintaining robust, resilient and high-quality digital services, while helping teams adopt and maintain strong software engineering practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop high-quality, maintainable software using Java and Spring Boot.
- Design and develop reusable libraries, services and APIs.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of scalable and resilient digital services.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance across software engineering teams.
- Review code and technical designs, ensuring engineering standards are maintained.
- Coach and mentor junior and mid-level developers.
- Work collaboratively with Architecture, Engineering, Delivery and other technical teams.
- Design and support system integrations and integration testing.
- Investigate and resolve complex infrastructure and production issues.
- Provide 3rd-line support for developed products, including occasional out-of-hours support where required.
- Promote engineering best practice, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to technical strategy and longer-term product direction.
- Consider security, accessibility, resilience, availability and operational stability throughout the development lifecycle.
- Identify technical risks and proactively develop appropriate solutions.
