Position Details

  • Location: Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC), Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, VA

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical support by preparing correspondence, developing Excel spreadsheets, and performing file creation and recordkeeping duties.
  • Compose and maintain various types of correspondence such as phone messages, emails, faxes, and letters.
  • Research and communicate with various entities inside and outside MARMC; notify appropriate entities per reporting requirements; draft and prepare documents, reports, and forms for signature pertaining to Military Legal.
  • Screen and direct telephone calls, visitors, and incoming correspondence to appropriate personnel.
  • Interface with visitors, conduct record checks for signatures required of Military Legal, and answer questions pertaining to services provided.
  • Identify and escalate workflow issues and provide administrative support to work directors, compile daily production statistics and other reports.
  • Manage databases by selecting guidelines or references that fit the specific case.
  • Establish and maintain soft and hard copy of various office documentation, research information, and operate modern office equipment and software.
  • Prepare special or one-time reports, summaries, or replies to inquiries, selecting relevant information from a variety of sources such as reports, documents, correspondence, and other offices.
  • Research requested administrative issues or problems and relay findings to military personnel and management.
  • Utilize current task-specific software programs.

Knowledge And Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a related field.
  • Three (3) years applicable job-related experience performing Military Administrative duties in a military legal professional office setting.
  • Must be familiar with current DOD/Navy directives regarding Military Legal correspondence; must be proficient in Naval correspondence.
  • Experience creating documents in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Outlook) and web-based platforms (SharePoint).
  • Be familiar with the Military Personnel Manual, JAGMAN, and Uniform Code of Military Justice to obtain information to complete tasking.
  • United States Citizen.
  • Active Secret Clearance.

Physical Requirements For Efficient Navigation Aboard US Navy Ships

Contractors must possess the physical stamina to walk continuously for extended periods without significant fatigue, including traversing inclined or uneven surfaces, crowded or confined areas, up and down ladders or stairs, and areas of varying environmental qualities. Contractors must possess adequate upper and lower-body strength necessary to climb ladders, stairs, and ramps, and the agility, endurance, and mental constitution required to work aloft when necessary. This may require work over the side of a ship's hull, on the mast, or in areas at a height that requires a safety harness. Strength and endurance should also be sufficient for hand-carrying tools, parts, materials, and equipment through narrow passageways, up and down ladders, and into or out of confined spaces.
