Role

This is an opportunity for a Corporate Practice Innovation & Knowledge Lawyer, referred to internally as Practice Group Lawyer / Counsel, to play a central role in the development of the Corporate team’s knowledge, training and legal innovation capability.

The role will support the team across M&A, private equity and general corporate advisory work, while also helping to shape how the practice uses AI, automation and other legal technology to improve the way we deliver advice to clients and support our lawyers.

Working closely with shareholders, fee‑earners, the Innovation team and other business services colleagues, the successful candidate will help implement the Corporate team’s knowledge strategy and translate legal, market and operational needs into practical tools, resources and workflows.

This will include maintaining and developing high‑quality precedents and research materials; monitoring legal, regulatory and market developments; designing and delivering training; supporting client‑facing thought leadership and business development; and identifying responsible, practical opportunities to embed AI and legal technology into the team’s day‑to‑day work.

This is a high‑impact role for a strong corporate lawyer who wants to help shape the future of a leading transactional practice: building the knowledge infrastructure, tools and ways of working that enable lawyers to deliver excellent client service in a market being transformed by AI, data and technology.

  • Private M&A – acquisitions and disposals by way of bilateral sale and auction
  • Private Equity – acquisition structures, shareholders agreements and management incentives
  • Joint Ventures – UK and cross‑border JV agreements, governance mechanics, exit provisions
  • Public M&A – knowledge of the Takeover Code and public M&A processes
  • A strong interest in AI, legal technology and the practical innovation of legal service delivery, particularly in a transactional environment
  • Expertise in horizon scanning and market intelligence, with the ability to synthesise trends across the practice and technology into practice strategy, workflows and priorities
  • Ability to translate unstructured data and inputs into structured technical and operational solutions

Responsibilities

  • Devise, alongside the shareholders, the knowledge and innovation strategy of the group (including overseeing translation of practice group and legal operations requirements into structured, technology‑led products and solutions).
  • Assist fee‑earners in monitoring, analysing, and incorporating key legal, market and innovation developments into their practices.
  • Work with the shareholders and broader team to develop and maintain market‑leading precedents and collaborate with our innovation team to develop reusable automation patterns, templates and documentation to support client‑ready solutions across the team.
  • Maintain electronic curation and collection of practice‑related knowledge resources, leveraging AI and technology solutions to improve data quality.
  • Engage directly with senior team leaders to understand and map end‑to‑end workflows and identify inefficiencies and opportunities for innovation.
  • Client‑Facing Initiatives
  • Work with the group and the marketing department to identify opportunities to develop business from new and existing clients and sectors through bespoke and targeted alerts, articles and briefing notes, and similar resources.
  • Support client‑facing knowledge initiatives, including thought leadership pieces, seminars, and workshops.
  • Assist in pitching and business development by preparing know‑how materials and precedent‑driven efficiencies.
  • Perform data analysis on client and sector trends, market intelligence, pricing strategies and evaluation of practice group legal services against KPIs.

  • Write or help to coordinate the writing of articles for publication for the Corporate team.
  • Monitor and keep the group informed about relevant developments and trends in the relevant law, case law, regulations and/or market practice.
  • Proactively identify for discussion legal, policy, business developments of potential interest to the group.
  • Help identify opportunities for the group to interact with other practice areas and other GT offices on thought leadership pieces.
  • Lawyer Training And Technical Expertise
  • Identify practice‑related training needs and assist with meeting those needs.
  • Help develop and deliver training for associates on practice updates, know‑how briefings and to assist them with locating practice‑related internal and external knowledge.

Experience, Skills And Personal Attributes

  • Experience gained at a top‑tier law firm as a qualified lawyer, ideally with exposure to private equity, and corporate transactions.
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating equity, JV, and transaction documentation.
  • Demonstrated interest in legal technology, AI, knowledge management and training, with a practical understanding of how lawyers can use technology responsibly to improve quality, consistency and efficiency.
  • Keen interest in innovation and technical solutions to know how, training and precedent creation, matter workflows and client service delivery.
  • Ability to engage credibly with senior lawyers and translate their needs into practical knowledge products, training materials and innovation opportunities.
  • Confidence to act as an internal champion for adoption of new tools and working practices, while recognising the importance of professional judgement, supervision, confidentiality and risk management.
  • PSL experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent drafting, communication, research, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively with senior stakeholders.
  • High professional standards with a passion for delivering a quality product.
  • Understanding of different learning processes and methods of training.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with people at all levels.

Qualifications

  • Admitted to practice as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales.
  • Undergraduate degree achieving a minimum of a 2:1 or equivalent.
