We are a small, well-established independent used car dealership stocking approximately 60–70 vehicles and preparing around 40 cars per month for retail sale. We are now looking for an experienced Workshop Controller to take ownership of our in-house workshop and manage day-to-day operations. This is a key role within a close-knit team. You will be trusted to run the workshop efficiently, keep cars moving smoothly through preparation, and maintain high standards without unnecessary red tape.
The Role
- Responsible for the overall organisation and control of the workshop, including:
- Managing and organising the workflow of the workshop
- Line-managing one technician / parts fitter mechanic
- Carrying out initial inspections on all incoming vehicles
- Diagnosing faults and determining rectification work required
- Ordering parts and allocating work efficiently
- Ensuring vehicles are prepared to a retail-ready standard
- Coordinating all external subcontracted work, including:
- Bodyshops
- Wheel refurbishment
- Other specialist external suppliers
- Communicating clearly with the wider dealership team to keep stock moving

The Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience as a Workshop Controller, Senior Technician, or similar role
- Strong diagnostic ability and mechanical knowledge
- Organised, practical, and comfortable taking responsibility
- Confident managing workflow and prioritising jobs
- Able to work independently while fitting into a small team environment
- A positive, problem-solving mindset
