Location: London, hybrid working. Contract: Fixed Term Contract until September 2027.

About the Role

Lead on research and knowledge products for the Connected Women and Connected Society programmes, generating insights to use in advocacy and market engagement activities. Support the creation of flagship report series (Mobile Gender Gap and State of Mobile Internet Connectivity) and additional research on barriers and opportunities to accessing and using mobile for women and underserved populations. Contribute to other GSMA research on digital inclusion and financial inclusion from a gender perspective. Manage commissioned and secondary research, data analysis, and monitoring and evaluation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Digital Inclusion Insights team to produce high‑quality outputs, including flagship reports, case studies, and additional insights.
  • Develop and deliver an overall vision and strategy for Connected Women and Connected Society research and insight activities that support the wider programme strategy.
  • Ensure insight activities are based on robust data and deliver outputs on time and within budget to a high standard, against the agreed workplan and impact monitoring.
  • Manage external agencies to deliver large research contracts.
  • Disseminate research and insights via webinars, blogs, events, and presentations.
  • Provide bespoke insights to help mobile operators and other key stakeholders develop, launch, and scale initiatives that drive digital and financial inclusion.
  • Collaborate across GSMA at global and regional level, including other M4D teams and GSMA Intelligence.
  • Keep Digital Inclusion and other relevant GSMA M4D team members up to speed with internal and external research and insights.
  • Manage the Insights team to deliver all of the above with operational excellence.
  • Contribute towards shaping the overall strategic direction of the programmes.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience designing and delivering high‑quality research: strategy, approach, tools, synthesis, and communication of insights.
  • Experience and familiarity with the mobile industry, preferably within the mobile for development sector.
  • Significant experience conducting research on marginalised groups in low‑ and middle‑income countries, especially related to digital and financial inclusion via mobile.
  • Interest in the commercial and social benefits of reducing mobile access and use gaps.
  • Fluent and compelling written and oral communication skills, with the ability to tailor complex findings into clear messaging for diverse audiences.
  • Experience establishing, managing, and inspiring relationships with senior‑level stakeholders and third‑party contractors.
  • Excellent cultural awareness and a desire to work with teams around the world.
  • First‑rate project and people management skills, able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A self‑starter, highly motivated to develop initiatives and drive them to completion with an entrepreneurial, creative, can‑do orientation.
  • Ability to work in a matrixed structure, positively influence peers, and support cross‑functional collaboration across the GSMA.
