About the Team: GSMA Mobile for Development (M4D) is a dedicated global team within the GSMA, which brings together our mobile operator members, tech innovators, the development community and governments, to prove the power of mobile in emerging markets. The GSMA’s Connected Society Programme works with the mobile industry and key stakeholders to increase access to and adoption of the mobile internet, focusing on underserved population groups in developing markets.
About the Role: The Senior Insights Manager will bring together data and insights to inform action to increase digital inclusion for underserved population groups; support research and evaluation studies; shape and deliver thought leadership pieces; produce best-in-class succinct case studies and briefs on key themes, such as mobile digital skills and handset affordability; and be involved in sharing these insights with stakeholders.
- Bringing together data, insights and/or learnings from partner engagements in an easy to understand, compelling and actionable way to inform industry and policy action.
- Producing high quality case studies highlighting successful initiatives and learnings as well as briefs or blogs on key topics including affordability, digital skills, gender inclusion and disability inclusion.
- Supporting robust research and evaluation studies across a range of markets.
- Engaging with the mobile industry and key stakeholders to provide advisory services on opportunities to advance and scale commercially sustainable impact through mobile internet adoption and use.
- Work effectively with other members of the Connected Society and Connected Women team and other Mobile for Development programmes on shaping and delivering relevant insights.
About You: The right candidate will take an evidence-based approach to produce impactful thought leadership content and support our engagement with stakeholders to drive action and learning. You will be excited to join a diverse team that shares a passion for the ways mobile technology can empower underserved populations, including women. You must have the right to work in the UK.
Capabilities:
- Thematic understanding: Genuine interest in, and enthusiasm for, driving mobile internet adoption and use in low-and middle-income markets including understanding the commercial and social benefits that are presented by doing this. Knowledge of key issues and the barriers facing underserved populations in accessing and using mobile internet. Experience of working with underserved populations in emerging markets is highly desirable. Commercial experience, ideally within or for the telecoms industry (e.g. as a management consultant, as part of a research agency) is highly desirable.
- Research expertise: Experience and familiarity with different research and evaluation methods and projects. Capacity to draw on and triangulate a wide range of data sources to provide key and actionable insights for a range of stakeholders including mobile operators and policy makers.
- Communication: Fluent and compelling written and oral communications skills, particularly in English. Excellent communicator, able to express complex or commercial issues in plain language, without losing the important points. Ability to synthesise thought leadership deliverables into succinct key messages, and to create bespoke, structured storylines tailored for different audiences and objectives.
- Relationship management, teamwork and collaboration: Experience establishing and managing productive senior client relationships. Experience of delivering results both through individual contribution and through culturally diverse, collaborative teams. A team player, happy to work in large multi-disciplinary groups, be flexible, and support and input into their work. Excellent cultural awareness and a desire to work with teams around the world. Willingness to travel internationally, including to emerging markets.
- Personal qualities: A self-starter, highly motivated to develop initiatives and drive them through to completion, who is able to work independently with an entrepreneurial, creative, can-do orientation. Conscientious, with high personal standards and attention to detail.
