About the Team
The GSMA founded the AI for Impact initiative in 2017, to drive collaboration with partners across the public and private sector to scale AI opportunities for telcos, while safeguarding its ethical and responsible deployment. The team is currently working with AI Leads from over 30 mobile operators worldwide, accounting for over 2 billion connections in 100+ countries. We also engage with a network of global thought leaders from UN agencies, governments, international organisations, academia and private sector. The teamβs programme of activities currently centre around 4 core workstreams, namely AI in Action, Responsible AI, AI Policy and Regulation, and Inclusive AI. These are delivered in close collaboration with expert colleagues from across the GSMA, including Advocacy, Mobile for Development, Technology and GSMA Intelligence, as well as our regional offices.
About the Role
This is a 12-month short term contract role to support and contribute the execution of the GSMA AI for Impact agenda and corresponding programme of activities. In this role, the Engagement Manager will work directly with the AI4I Director to ensure a holistic engagement across the different workstreams, facilitate regular meetings, workshops with the other GSMA teams and contribute to the GSMA events. The successful candidate will further collaborate with the wider AI for Impact team to support and inform the external engagement with mobile operators, the broader telco partners ecosystem and international organisations as relevant to help achieve programme goals. This will also involve undertaking ad hoc research, management of content and creating of presentations and briefing documents to support these external engagements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support the activities across the AI4I team workstreams and the delivery of the programmes by the team, helping deliver a comprehensive engagement across the required stakeholders (internal or external).
- Work with the team and colleagues to deliver compelling series of regular virtual meetings and workshops, as well as face to face events and roundtables, to progress and inform the programme activities.
- Support and contribute to AI4I team activities related to GSMA events (e.g. GSMA AI Forum, MWCs, M360s, Digital Summits, etc.)
- Stay up to date on AI developments as relevant to the mobile industry, ranging from use cases and business opportunities to technical capabilities and policy landscape.
- Undertake ad hoc market research and capture insights into compelling materials to inform internal and external meetings and workshops.
- Manage a central library of insights, briefing documents and presentations across the team workstreams.
- Help facilitate coordination meetings with Technology, Mobile for Development, Advocacy and regional teams on a regular basis.
This is a hands-on role, and the successful candidate is required to be self-motivated to achieve deliverables and objectives without day-to-day supervision, while keeping the team and the senior management informed on progress.
About You
You have good understanding of the opportunities that digital technologies, and in particular AI, can provide for industry and society, as well as what is involved in developing and adopting these technologies at scale. Including use cases, business requirements, technical capabilities need. You have experience in managing complex stakeholder engagement programmes, and you are able to work comfortably in a matrix environment. Proven track record of working effectively as a liaison between external clients and internal cross-functional teams. You have gained this experience working in the telco industry and adjacent sectors. Are familiar with the landscape of existing actors and have proven ability to build, nurture, and maintain long-term relationships with senior-level stakeholders. You understand the ethical principles in which AI design, development and deployment should be founded, and are familiar with the emerging policy and regulatory landscape. You will have demonstrated the ability to quickly learn and grasps complex subject matters, and proficiency in driving research that generates fresh and unique insights. You are well-versed at multi-tasking and managing appropriate priorities between parallel project deliverables and ensuring progress to sometimes challenging timelines. Strong organisation skills are required to manage the diverse workload. You are experienced in developing workshops and co-creation sessions to support high-level strategic conversations with clients and ecosystem partners.
